In this article, first published in The Regulator, Peter Caldwell discusses current government proposals to extend the power of the Crown Court to investigate and impose sanctions on regulated professionals including lawyers, estate agents and financial advisers.  He argues that the proposal for the Crown Court to adjudicate as Regulator concurrently with its trial jurisdiction is unlikely to work in practice and may give rise to serious injustice.
